Chronic Illness

A diagnosis of a chronic disease can bring about many changes in self, career, financial stability and relationships.

In many cases, through medical treatment, the physical symptoms of the disease may be stable but the psychological distress may be ongoing. Grief and loss are a common and normal experience. Anger, anxiety and sadness are a part of the grief and loss journey. We hold onto the hope of returning to our life as we once knew it and it may feel as though we will never enjoy life again. Stress management is also an important consideration in coping with the physical and emotional effects of a chronic disease.

Therapy can help you work through the emotional distress and come to terms with the challenges brought on by the illness.

The therapeutic safe space can provide the opportunity to ventilate the grief, anxiety and sadness that can hinder medical outcomes or become a barrier to improving quality of life. Working through the grief process, though challenging at times, can provide you with new meaning and purpose. We can explore strategies to manage the stress, alleviate anxiety and build your new identity that provides hope for a good and productive life.
