Dr. Mary Rzeszut, DSW, LCSW

Dr. Mary Rzeszut (pronounced “Rezit”) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who holds a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Social Work.

Training

Dr. Rzeszut began her career as a medical social worker and has worked in the areas of renal, oncology, neurology, IBD and transplant populations. This training has developed her interest, passion and expertise in understanding the psychological effects of living with acute and chronic illnesses.

She is a mind/body trained workshop facilitator, and has an eclectic approach to practice utilizing evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. 

Professional Recognition

Dr. Rzeszut is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine and is a member of the Dean’s executive committee on professional health and well-being. She was awarded the NYC Champions in HealthCare award in 2021 from Cranes New York Business for her work providing mental health support to health care professionals during the COVID 19 pandemic. In addition, she is Director of the Post Master's Certificate Program – Healthcare Social Work at the NYU Silver School of Social Work. 

Her research interests include adjustment to chronic disease, medical trauma and professional wellness.

Publications

Dr Rzeszut presents on the subject of psychological distress in chronic disease and has been published in peer reviewed journal articles.
